Outstanding Planning Award.

We greatly thank all participants for your assistance and cooperation throughout this extensive process.  Your input was critical to the Master Plan and, as always, we truly value your opinion.  This extensive community-wide input will help Hudson continue to be a great place to live, work and play.

What is a Master Plan?
A Master Plan is a comprehensive long range plan intended to guide growth and development of a community or region.  It includes analysis, recommendations, and proposals for the community’s population, economy, housing, transportation, preservation, energy, community facilities, and land use.  It is based on public input, surveys, planning initiatives, existing development, physical characteristics, and social and economic conditions.  Click here for more Frequently Asked Questions.

The Master Plan Steering Committee
A Steering Committee has been appointed by the Board of Selectmen to help guide the planning process.  The Steering Committee is made up of one or more individuals representing the following Boards, Commissions or Departments:

  • Board of Selectmen

Previous Plans
The Town’s last Master Plan dates from 1964.  (This plan is available under the Documents section.)  But the Town has many comprehensive planning documents that it has worked on over the years, including the Community Development Plan, the Community Preservation Plan & the Open Space Plan. In addition, as part of the Community Development Block Grant application process, the Town updates its Community Development Strategy every one to two years.  The Community Development Strategy is an abridged planning document that incorporated goals for the Town with respect to development, housing, transportation, preservation and energy.

Consultant Selection
After an intense process, the  Master Plan Steering Committee has chosen the consulting firm of Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, Inc. (VHB) as the firm to carry out Hudson's Master Planning process.  VHB will work under the advisory guidance of the Steering Committee with policy direction from the Planning Board.

Final Adoption
After a long and complex two and a half year process, the Hudson Planning Board adopted the Master Plan as the official planning document of the Town of Hudson, at its meeting of Novermber 18, 2014!
