COOPERATIVE ELDER SERVICES INC.
By Renee Grenier; Social Service Advocate for HudsonSenior Center
I had the opportunity to meet with Patricia Oliphant in June to discuss the Adult Day Health Program at Cooperative Elder Services Inc, which is located in Concord MA. Cooperative Elder Services or CESI provides services to elders and disabled adults in 6 centers in the Greater Boston Area.
The Concord site, located at 7 Chamberlain Drive, offers the program to residents of Hudson who qualify for Adult Day Health. In addition, the Concord site recently secured transportation to Hudson so that clients have the option of curb side pick-up via chair van. The CESI program offers support to clients in a number of capacities. CESI offers breakfast, hot noon-time meals, and snacks throughout the day.
The Activities Program offers a well rounded curriculum including exercise groups, music programs, gardening, arts and crafts, painting, cooking, woodworking, discussion groups, current events, and various entertainment. A new men’s group has generated recent popularity among the center’s male clients.
The Nursing Department can provide physical and mental status assessments, medical management of chronic conditions, administration of medications, respiratory treatments, skin care, blood sugar monitoring, nutrition supervision, assistance with activities of daily living, support programs for caregiver, and communication with primary doctors. Counseling services are available to clients who are in need. In addition, the Social Service Department can provide support services and information on community resources. CESI also coordinates support groups for all family members.
For those who have cognitive impairments CESI offers a specialized Dementia Day Care which provides for clients who have Alzheimer’s or other memory disorders. CESI accepts payment from Mass Health, Private, or State Home Care Reimbursement.
For specific information on rates or to schedule a tour please contact Admissions and Social Service Coordinator Patricia Oliphant at 978-318-0046. You can also check out their website: www.elderdayservices.com.
This program is well coordinated and has exception staff. I encourage you to call for more information if you or someone you know is interested in Adult Day Health. Brochures are available at the Center; please see the Outreach Dept.
