April 9th 10am Lincoln and the Election of 1860 By Dr. Gary Hylander. At the Hudson Senior Center 10:00 am (cost $5.00)
Presented by Dr. Gary Hylander in partnership with Sage Educational Services. Learn about Lincoln’s efforts to abolish slavery at a time when the South wanted to form the Confederate States of America.
Convinced that Lincoln’s election would result in a Republican effort to abolish slavery, Southern fire-eaters from the lower South voted to secede from the Union and to form the Confederate States of America. Lincoln, in his inaugural address, expressed confidence that the crisis would pass and that the Union would be preserved when secessionists were “again touched-by the better angels of our nature.”
Please call the center if you are interested in attending this informative lecture. This will be Dr. Hylander’s 3rd visit to our center. He presented “Global Warming” in the spring of 07 and “The Roosevelt Years” in the winter of 07. An outstanding lecturer, don’t miss this!
