Senior Center Building Update Our Senior Center Building project is really moving along.   To date, the back part of the building has been removed, the exposed foundation needed to be reinforced and underpinning is being done.  Digging for the foundation of the new addition has just begun.   Digging for the geothermal well will begin soon.  Part of the roof has been redone with a slate like shingle which looks really nice.  The beautiful decorative brackets that had been removed from the original building, has been reattached.   The interior of the original building has a lot going on.   Plumbing has been started for the multiple bathrooms on all floors.  The attic has been completely gutted and opened up.  The light from the cupola actually lights the whole room.  It will be a beautiful room when finished.    The painting room on the second floor is now one very large room, again with beautiful natural lighting.  A perfect spot for our painting and quilting class with lots of space to spread out.   At this point, the construction team feels the project may be completed before December 2009, but there is still so much to be done.  We certainly have much to be grateful for!

The newsletter annual 2009 dues are do.  If you are not sure if you paid the $5.00 dues, just call Marie and she will check it out.   Thank you!

ELDER COMMUNITY CARE PROGRAM
Are you concerned about an elderly family member, friend or neighbor?
Does your job involve coming in contact with our community’s most vulnerable and isolated elders?
If you answered yes to either of the above questions you could play a very important role in helping to improve access to care for older persons most in need!  The majority of people over the age of sixty living in the metrowest area reside in their own homes or apartments.  They are living active independent lives.  However, many elderly living in this area suffer from serious problems which put them at risk for needless suffering or premature nursing home placement.  Come join the Hudson Senior Center and BayPath Elder Services for a workshop on identifying older adults in the community in need of services.   Recognize the signs and symptoms of mental health and substance abuse issues in older adults.   At this workshop you will learn:
·       Identify available community resources
·       Talk to an elder about getting help
·       Get more information on the new Elder Community Care Program and the mental health component to life line called Tele Check and Tele Help.
Please call 978-568-9638 for reservations and join us on April 14, 2009 10:00-11:30am
This workshop will take place at the Hudson Senior Center temporarily located at the Town Offices (78 Main Street Hudson).  These events are free and open to the public.  All are welcome!

Patriots' Day is a public holiday celebrated on the third Monday in April, which commemorates the battles fought at Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775, which marked the start of the American Revolution. Patriots' Day was enacted as a legal holiday in 1894 and is observed in both Massachusetts and Maine, which was formerly a part of Massachusetts. Prior to 1969, Patriots' Day was observed every year on April 19.

Are you or someone you know caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s Disease?
CARE-PLUS,  is  a research study conducted by Boston University’s Alzheimer’s Disease Center (BU-ADC), for caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) that are having trouble managing some of the common behavioral problems associated with the disease. The goal of the CARE-PLUS study is to determine whether caregiver-based intervention can reduce behavior problems in individuals with AD and improve caregiver’s emotional well being.  The individual with AD is not involved in the study in any way.  CARE-PLUS is a 5 week group intervention (90 minutes each session).  These sessions will offer information on AD, its symptoms, tips for improving communication and interaction, and strategies for reducing caregiver stress.
I am very excited to report that the Hudson Senior Center has been asked to participate in this wonderful project.  If we can recruit a few people who are interested in this study and will commit to the 5 week program, we can have the program here at the Hudson Senior Center.  Please call Janice 978-568-9638 if you are interested in this FREE program.   For more detailed information about this study, please call Alicia Semiatin, Study Coordinator at 617-353-9124.
