REPRESENTATIVE KATE HOGAN'S
NOVEMBER 2009 NEWS
Salute to Veterans! There will be a very special dinner at the Hudson Portuguese Club on Friday, November 13th, honoring our men and women in uniform and all who have served. Coleman Nee, Veteran of Operation Desert Storm and now Undersecretary for the Department of Veterans’ Services will be giving the keynote address. The Department of Veterans’ Services advocates on behalf of the nearly 500,000 veterans in Massachusetts, their families, and survivors. The salute begins at 6PM with cocktails. Full Buffet Dinner. Tickets are $12. For more information call 978-567-1929.
Medicaid Payments for Caregiving Spouses: Husbands and wives could be hired as Medicaid-paid caregivers for their elderly or disabled spouses under provisions of a bill heard on Beacon Hill last month. The bill was created to correct an “oversight” in some MassHealth programs that do not include the paid caregiver option for married couples. Some MassHealth programs, including adult foster care and personal home attendant programs, allow family members other than spouses to be paid caregivers for Medicaid recipients. Our office will be watching this bill as it makes its way through the committee.
