Caregiver Support

The Hudson Senior Center understands the challenges of being a caregiver.  There are many services to offer you support, respite or just the peace of mind of knowing someone has checked in on your loved one.

A Social Day Program Providing Respite for Caregivers

Professional staff will provide a healthy lunch and engaging activities for those who require some supervision.  You can participate one, two or three days per week.  DayBreak provides a structured, quality time for your loved ones at three locations:

  • Northboro Senior Center 119 Bearfoot Road Tuesdays 11:30am-2:30pm.
  • Marlboro Senior Center 40 New Street Wednesdays 11:30am-2:30pm.
  • Hudson Senior Center 29 Church Street Thursdays 11:30am-2:30pm.

Support for this project provided in part by the MetroWest Health Foundation. A suggested voluntary donation of $15 would be appreciated but not necessary to participate in the program.

  • Caregiver Support Group - Select Thursdays at 1pm at the Hudson Senior Center. Please see newsletter for dates.
  • Create a Better Day Cafe: Alzheimer's Socialization Group - 4th Sunday of the month, 1:00-3:00 PM, Pleasantries Adult Day Services, 195 Reservoir St, Marlboro.  Cost = FREE.  Are you caring for someone with Alzheimer's or other dementia?  Create a Better Day Cafe encourages socialization with other patients, caregivers & loved ones where you can just be yourself.  This is a wonderful opportunity to get out with your loved one & have an enjoyable afternoon.  It's a time to step out of the daily routine, leave the disease at the door& enjoy a positive experience in a supportive environment.  The afternoon consists of conversation, music, arts, games, refreshments & most importantly, laughter!  It is open to anyone at any stage of the disease process who is accompanied by friends, family & loved ones.
  • CaregivingMetrowest - Springwell Elder Services, Inc., thanks to the generous support & funding of the Metrowest Health Foundation, is proud to present a state-of-the-art website designed to help the growing population of family caregivers in the Metrowest region.  www.CaregivingMetrowest.org will provide a single point of access to information, support, resources, & social connections for caregivers in the 25 Metrowest communities served by the Metrowest Health Foundation.  Features include an interactive map allowing users to get an extensive list of caregiving resources in each town, a discussion forum, a caregiving blog & a comprehensive information section covering all aspects of familial caregiving.    For more information, please contact Douglas Flynn, CaregivingMetrowest.org Program Manager, at (508) 573-7204 or email.
  • Meals on Wheels - Managed by Sprinwell Elder Services, the Meals on Wheels program delivered over 13,000 home-delivered meals in Hudson last year.  Click here for more information.
  • Medical Transportation - In addition to our local Senior Shuttle which takes seniors to medical appointments in Hudson and Marlboro , there are many community volunteer organizations that drive people to medical appointments.  Certain services may be tied to the type of medical condition, or other factors.  For more information click here.
  • SafetyNet Program - Cost = $99 activation, $30/month. Residents with a documented cognitive condition, such as Alzheimer’s disease or autism, wear a bracelet or anklet that features a radio frequency transmitter that allows local authorities to track them should they wander or become lost. Click here for more info.
  • Home Care & Long-Term Care Programs - There are many programs available to individuals who are medically nursing home eligible to recieve home care services.  These programs have helped many seniors get the services they need at home without having to enter a nursing facility.  It has also relieved families from the burden of having to pay for private home care services.   Click here for more information.
  • 800 AGE INFO -  A service for elders & their families, provided by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs & the Mass Home Care Association, 800 AGE INFO provides a wide range of resources for seniors and individuals with disabilities. The services provided range from basic assessments and nutrition advice, to more complex services such as home care, employment, education/training, and housing.  Getting in touch is as easy as picking up the phone & calling 1-800-AGE-INFO (1-800-243-4636).  Additional information & links to services/programs is also available on their website: www.800ageinfo.com.
  • Caring for Someone with Memory Problems? -  Are you caring for someone with memory problems?
