Wastewater Treatment Facility and Main Street Pump Station Upgrades

The Town of Hudson Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF) and Main Street Pump Station (MSPS) are currently undergoing Phase 2 upgrades. The previous Phase 1 Upgrades were completed in 2011. The current upgrades are based on recommendations made in the Town’s 2020 Wastewater Treatment Facility Evaluation Report that was conducted by the Town’s engineering consultant, Wright-Pierce. The contract to complete the Phase 2 Upgrades was awarded to Daniel O’Connell’s Sons (DOC) of Holyoke, MA.

This project consists of complete replacement of the existing pumps in the Main Street Pump Station, including new piping, valves, standby generator, and miscellaneous building improvements. Upgrades to the WWTF include new mechanisms for the circular clarifiers (both intermediate and activated sludge); replacement of the humus sludge, trickling filter recycle, and main lift pumping systems (including valves and piping); upgrades to the aeration system (including replacement of the mechanical surface aerators); replacement of ferric chloride and sodium hydroxide chemical pumps; and building improvements at the Control, Headworks, and Process Buildings.

The WWTF and MSPS Phase 2 Upgrades are financed through the Massachusetts Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF), project number 6924. The CWSRF program is managed by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (Mass DEP), with coordinated financial support from both the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
