Medical Transportation

In addition to our local Senior Shuttle which takes seniors to medical appointments in Hudson, Marlboro & Southboro, there are many community volunteer organizations that drive people to medical appointments.  Certain services may be tied to the type of medical condition, or other factors.

  • MWRTA Hospital Shuttle - Running 3 times per day on Tuesdays & Thursdays, COST = $2.00 each way.  The Metrowest Regional Transit Authority (MWRTA) offers convenient, worry-free, direct transportation to Boston area hospitals.  The shuttle service open to anyone wishing to go to any of the following hospitals: West Roxbury V.A., Jamaica Plain V.A., N.E. Baptist, Brigham & Women's, Dana Farber, Beth Israel, Joslin Clinic, & N.E. Deaconess.  Riders may board the shuttle at the MWRTA hub on Waverly Street in Framingham (NO PARKING) or at the Natick VFW on W. Central Street (plenty of FREE PARKING).  The hub facility may also be accessed through the regular MWRTA bus route system (see below.)  Trips must be booked at least 1 day in advance & riders must pre-register by calling 508-820-4650 or click HERE for registration form & more information.
  • MWRTA Bus Routes - While Hudson does not offer any public transportation, Hudson is very close to several stops along the MWRTA in Marlboro. The MWRTA stops at the Solomon Pond Mall, Marlboro Hospital, Marlboro City Hall, the Wayside Inn Country Store & also on Hosmer St.  A short taxi ride, or a ride from a friend, neighbor or loved one can connect you to 11 bus routes through Ashland, Dover, Framingham, Holliston, Hopkinton, Marlboro, Natick, Sherborn, Southboro, Sudbury, Wayland, Wellesley & Weston, as well as to the MBTA Commuter Rail.  For more information, routes, fares & schedules, visit www.mwrta.com.Transit Map
  • Road to Recovery - Sponsored by the American Cancer Society, volunteers are available to drive patients to all cancer related medical appointments, including treatments, labs & follow-up visits.  It is recommended to contact the American Cancer Society at least 48 hours prior to the appointment to request a ride.  Patients are allowed to bring a cane or walker, provided they can ambulate independently.  Light weight wheel chairs are also acceptable, but it is important to inform the American Cancer Society regarding what type of equipment you will be using, if any.  Calls are received 24 hours a day:  1-800-227-2345.
  • VetRides - This program provides transportation to veterans and their caregivers who live in Hudson, Stow or Maynard to medical appointments in both the local or Boston area FREE of charge.  Last year, the VetRides program provided nearly 200 rides.  To learn more or to request a ride, please contact Brian Stearns, Hudson Veterans Services Officer at 978-568-9635 or email.  For additional veterans transportation services, click HERE.
