It is never too late to stop, and when you do stop, your body begins to repair itself immediately. There will be many healthy changes, some of which will continue to improve over several years.

It may take several attempts before quitting successfully but some people are successful right away.

No judgments. Just help. Hudson Health Department is offering at no cost a confidential counseling sessions for the Hudson, Marlborough, Framingham and Northborough residents that are willing to quit smoking and there is no limited number of sessions.

The counseling sessions encourage you in the quit attempt are communicate caring and concern. You will develop coping skills. For example: Learning to anticipate and avoid temptation and trigger situations; learning cognitive strategies that will reduce negative moods; and accomplishing lifestyle changes that reduce stress, improve quality of life, and reduce exposure to smoking cues.

Tobacco dependence is a chronic disease and smokers may need multiple attempts to quit. Effective cessation treatments exists as individual and telephone counseling and FDA-approved cessation medications. These combined treatments increase quit rates.
